The actual material is sturdy, however, the pre-drilled holes were either too far from bolt or too close to edge of wood. During install the bolts were just hand tightened and with the hole too far away from the bolt, it pulled the locking nut into the wood causing it to splinter. Took about 3 and a half hours to build while having to check instructions multiple times. The instructions would call for 3 dowels to be put in one piece but there was only one hole for dowel on the piece so ended up with an overage on dowels. It was also difficult to see all the required hardware placement on the instructions. So far my son likes the bed but we will see how it fairs.I was able to assemble this product easily with the help of my husband towards the end when we had to stack it. We love the design and the fact it’s not too high up for our 3yo. The one complaint is that the board around the top edge has very sharp edges. It would be extremely painful if you were to lay back and hit it. We will be putting some type of protective ‘baby proof’ trim around it just in case, at least one the end where he lays his head. Otherwise it looks great and is just what we needed for storage. The color espresso is definitely more black.Pretty solid and looks nice but I had several issues putting it together. 1st, the instructions are terrible and the photos on the instructions are so small it's hard to tell sometimes how parts should go.2nd, when installing the back part where the shelves and drawers go, the back was not cut small enough to fit so I had to cut a little so it would fit. 3rd, and this is the worst, they did not mark the holes correct where the railing for the drawers go so I had to improvise and do measurements and poke holes just to get the drawers to line up right.All in all, I would say that this was the most difficult piece of furniture I ever put together and I have put a lot of different pieces of furniture together.They look just like the picture ans shipping was super fast. However, they are extremely hard to put togetherMany of the factory holes were out of alignment with where fasteners were intended to go. The step piece actually had a factory attached rail screwed and glued on BACKWARDS. I had to use a wood chisel to remove it, reverse the incorrectly manufactured rail, drill new countersinks with a forstner bit, and re-glue + re-screw the rail back to the step to get the holes to align and continue installation. Too many imperfections to list... By far the most frustrating piece of assembly required furniture I have put together. The dowels are in holes nearly double their outer diameter and do little to help with alignment. The back support for the bed has no cross bracing and wants to fold in on itself when you move the bed. The shipping cost was astronomical for two boxes, too. So disappointed with this bed...While assembling with poor instructions, when we went to tighten screws, several boards just snapped and broke. Pretty flimsy material. Drawers didn't line up either. When we attempted to contact the seller, the only option it gives us is to return the entire bed (not ask for parts) for a refund, and considering the troubles we went through putting it together-we are NOT taking it apart to mail back.Hopefully the seller sees this and reaches out to us to help us-my son will be bummed if he cannot use his new bed. :(Value for my money , assembling I had to hire someone to do itGood product I would recommend
